How To Listen To Your Inner Voice

When it comes to setting goals and determining your life purpose, it's important to slow down and listen. Not only to your heart, but to that inner voice that "knows" what is right for you. Another word for this inner voice is instinct. You must find a balance. You must find the voice of your authentic self.

The poet Rumi wrote:

“Live completely in the head and you cannot feel the breath and rhythm of life. Live completely in the heart and you may find yourself acting like a love-struck fool with poor judgment and discipline. It’s all a fine balance - the head and heart must forge a lifetime partnership if one wants to live a beautiful life.”

Learn to listen to the inner voice, your "instinct"... some may call it intuition, some may call the voice your "guardian angel"... it doesn't matter what you call it, as long as you pay attention.

You might be discouraged from following this inner voice, especially if you listen to the criticism of others. To the critics, your ideas might seem foolish or illogical and you may be tempted to follow their advice. But before you toss your own inner voice aside, ask yourself if your critics have accomplished all their goals and achieved all their dreams? How wise is their widsom, really?

Remember, this is your one life, your destiny, your purpose and your dream you are following. Listen, gather the wisdom of others, but in the end, it is your final decision what you do, and the journey and purpose you follow with your life.

Listen to your heart and your inner voice and you cannot go wrong.

How To Determine What You Want In Life?

Do you really know what you want out of life? Or are you one of those people who doesn't discover the answer to that question until time is almost at an end?

So many people in our culture spend countless hours watching television or wasting time doing something they really don't like. One famous quote puts it quite well: "Most people die at twenty and are buried at eighty." They are like living zombies.

You many be one of those people who are unsure of what you really want out of life. You can't make a decision or you just decide not to decide. People without definite goals are letting time pass them by.

If you count yourself among this crowd, there is no reason to stay that way. You can always refocus on new goals, and discover a new determination to meet those goals, no matter how old you are. But it does take effort.

You must be willing to look deep into your heart. Yes, your logical mind can give you clues to your deepest goals... but to discover what you really want, suspend your logical mind for a moment and ask... what are you really passionate about? What do you really want?

To listen to your heart you need to quiet your mind and spend some quiet time rediscovering what it is you really love to do, what brings you joy? for what do you have real passion? If you have a passion for something, it never feels like work. It's a joy to do it. Even if there are setbacks and obstacles in your way, your passion will carry you through.

Of course, listening to your heart does not mean you shut off your mind altogether. You must find a proper balance between the two. More on that in tomorrow's post.

How To Boost Your Self Esteem With Affirmations

One way to stop this negative absorption is to use positive affirmations.

1) Always speak or write your affirmations in present tense. For example, I am successful rather than I want to be successful. By making the affirmations true in “real time” you are empowered to believe them as true.

2) Believable. Your affirmations must be realistic. If you are living a life of near poverty, it is unrealistic to speak an affirmation as if you are someone with a million dollars. Instead create an affirmation that is positive but believable. For example: Each day my prosperity is increasing. My life is full of abundance and possibilities for success. These are believable affirmations.

3) When you speak your affirmations do so with conviction and a positive tone. Even if you doubt the power of affirmations, speak each one with a deliberate tone of respect in the possibility of each becoming real. Your belief in the power of affirmations will become stronger each time you speak them.

4.) Repeat your affirmations frequently during the day. Your unconscious is listening to the words and slowly the words are making an impact on your life. The words you speak attract their own reality.

5) Be patient. You have repeated or listened to negative thinking for years. That negative belief system cannot be undone in just a few days or weeks or months. It takes time to undo all that negativity. So be patient with yourself. Little by little you will see improvements in your attitude and your life. That will be the sign that your affirmations are working!
